Palenzuela is the first town in the route through Palencia. Emperor Carlos V paid four visits to this province, three of which he stayed overnight. On that particular October 17th, 1556, on his way to his retreat in Yuste, the emperor was surely thinking of the numerous images his journeys had left him with, like the day of his first visit, when the people of Aguilar had welcomed him with a corrida de toros (bullfighting).
