On his way to Dueñas, Carlos V crossed the lands of Venta de Baños, and it is most probable that he stopped by the Iglesia de San Juan de Baños, within the Baños de Cerrato municipal area, a district of Venta de Baños.
It is one of the most beautiful basilicas of Spanish-Visigothic style in the country. According to the legend, the construction of the church, going back to the year 661, was ordered by Recesvinto. While crossing these lands he drank water from the fountain that is right next to the basilica; the water came from old baths with healing effects. His illness was cured, and to show his gratitude he ordered the reconstruction of the fountain and of the church.
