Isabella I of Castile was born on 22nd April 1451 in the palace that stood on the site of the Monastery of Nuestra Señora de Gracia. Several of the original palace rooms are still standing, as well as the state staircase and Court Room, the cloister, the Royal Chapel, the Ambassadors’ Hall and the Queen’s Bedchamber. The collection of artworks also includes sculptures, paintings as well as documents, furniture and other items from the period.
The Gothic-Mudejar Church of San Nicolás de Bari houses the font where Queen Isabella was baptised. This temple was also the setting for the marriage between Isabella’s parents, John II of Castile and Isabella of Portugal, in 1447.
