Route through the Plateresque altarpieces in the east of the province of Leon - JOARA - Church of San Andrés
Altarpiece from the second quarter of the 16th century, consisting of three sections and seven aisles. The outer sections, which house the three-dimensional images of the evangelists with their corresponding Tetramorph symbol, are smaller. The first section, raised on a plinth decorated with busts and grotesque panels, contains a tabernacle in its central section whose door is adorned with a relief of the Resurrection , while the central section of the second and third sections houses the three-dimensional images of Saint Andrew and The Coronation of the Virgin , respectively. The side sections incorporate different brushwork stories on the hagiography and martyrdom of the titular saint, Saint Andrew, and the Passion of Christ , works by the painter Cristóbal de Colmenares, who, according to a contract dated 1541, also gilded the masonry.
