Around
We leave the Palencia mountains behind and begin the reign of the great karst moors that show us their capricious shapes and offer us unique landscapes. The Valcabado viewpoint is a clear example and is perhaps one of the best viewpoints in the area.
The roads in this area are not complicated and the environment invites calm driving, although just after Sargentes de la Lora we will experience a surprising change, with a narrow road, slightly boxed and bordered by deciduous forests, which will take us through landscapes. very attractive until we drop off at the Rudrón river and begin the climb in search of a small, young Ebro river.
Arriving at the town of Soncillo, we will fully enter the Merindades Burgalesas region, a tourist paradise, both for hikers and bikers. Each town can be a stopover and the cultural and ethnographic heritage is indescribable. Some examples of small hidden treasures can be the curious town of Puentedey and the obligatory stop at the Ojo Guareña Natural Monument, the second largest karst complex in caves on the Iberian Peninsula, and one of the ten largest in the world, of great interest to caving and where prehistoric sanctuaries and species of cave-dwelling invertebrates have been located.
