The Duero leaves the lands of Castilla y León and enters Portugal through La Fregeneda. When it crosses the border, the Duero becomes the Douro and flows gently again, making it navigable until it is consumed by the Atlantic in Portuguese territory.
In La Fregeneda the church of San Marcos Evangelista is worth a visit, started in the 16th century in the Gothic style and concluded in the Baroque style in the 18th century.
The Vega Terrón Pier stands out in the town, where the great cruises that cross the Douro from Porto arrive, the magnificent international bridge of the railway line between La Fuente de San Esteban and Barca d’Alva and the accessible viewpoint of Mafeito.
