The milestone of 19th century civil engineering is today one of the most captivating hiking routes, running through an extraordinarily beautiful landscape full of contrasts. Following the route of what was the Duero railway, the winding path makes its way with ten bridges and twenty tunnels through the heart of Las Arribes in a natural setting of extremely high ecological value. Ideal to explore in spring, the spectacular nature and value of this industrial jewel lies mainly in the technical solutions that were necessary to implement to adapt the railway route to the rugged geography, where the river borders with Portugal.
The route starts from the old La Fregeneda train station and after 17 km ends at the Vega Terrón river dock, the only one of its kind in Castile and León. There is another shorter round trip alternative of 8 km to tunnel number 3 and return to the starting point.
