The year 2017 has been proclaimed by the United Nations as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for development. This decision is consistent with some of the Sustainable Development Goals approved by the United Nations General Assembly, including that of "promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all."
Likewise, on September 27, 2016, Tourism Day was celebrated, dedicated in 2016 to Accessible Tourism, with the motto "Tourism for All – Promoting Universal Accessibility", with the challenge of recognizing the need for accessibility in the tourism and accommodate all people in tourist destinations.
