The European Commission, through DG GROW, has launched the European Capital of Smart Tourism 2023 competition.

The European Capital of Smart Tourism is an EU initiative that recognizes the outstanding achievements of its cities' tourist destinations in four categories: sustainability, accessibility, digitalization, as well as cultural heritage and creativity in order to promote smart tourism in the EU, network and strengthen destinations, and facilitate the exchange of best practices.

The competition is open to cities from both the EU and non-EU countries participating in the COSME program (Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine and United Kingdom).
