The vast expanses of trees for the timber industry earned this area the name Valle de las Astillas - literally ‘Woodchip Valley’ - which would later adapted to its current name Valdestillas. The town lines the main road and the majority of its buildings are huddled on the left bank of the River Adaja. There is a bridge over the river whose cutwater and central arch date back to the days of the Romans.

Moving into the modern age, an interesting fact about this town is that it was the site of one of the famous taverns of the Kingdom of Castile mentioned in the works of Cervantes.

This town also includes the following sites of interest: the Parish Church of Santa María del Milagro, the Chapel of El Cristo del Amparo and the Cemetery Chapel.
