Wall and castle of Soria
The origin of the castle of Soria would have to be looked for in a defensive construction or Muslim watchtower of the 9th century that later passed into Christian hands, modifying and expanding in the 12th century. Located in what is now the Castle Park, a wide hill with a piled-in summit and a strong strategic character that offers magnificent views of the city and the surroundings of the Douro River.
The wall of Soria is one of the largest in medieval Spain, with a length of 4,100 m and had eight gates. It was built of masonry except for corner reinforcements, in which ashlars were used. Its layout was following the line of summits of the hills of Mirón and the Castle.
