The poet, born in Seville in 1875, first came to Soria in 1907 on obtaining a Chair in French. The route begins at the Antonio Machado High School where he first taught, before continuing to several of the city’s churches which became part of the backdrop for major events in his life, such as the Church of Santa María la Mayor, where he married Leonor Izquierdo in 1909.
The River Duero, the landscapes of Soria and its people all formed part of the inspiration for Fields of Castile, one of the truly great universal works of poetry.
