Hermitage of San Saturio
The hermitage of San Saturio is dedicated to the Patron Saint of Soria whose feast is celebrated on October 2.
The hermitage is located on a cave on the left bank of the Duero River, between the Santa Ana hills and the Ánimas mountain. It is one of the most beautiful and emblematic landscape enclaves of the city, inspiring some of the legends of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer and the poetic work of Antonio Machado.
Legend has it that Saturio was a Soriano nobleman from the 6th century who, after the death of his parents, distributed his wealth among the poor and decided to move to these caves on the banks of the Duero River to lead the life of a hermit.
