Episcopal Palace of Segovia
The Episcopal Palace, the former residence of the bishops in Segovia, exhibits artistic works of painting, sculpture and goldsmiths belonging to the Diocese. You can also visit those known as Noble Rooms, among which are the Throne Room or the Bishop's Bedroom. They contain furniture dating from the 17th and 19th centuries.
The origin of the building dates back to the year 1550, when construction began as the noble house of the Count of Puñonrostro. In 1635, it was sold to the Salcedo family, which is why it is also known as Palacio de los Salcedo. The Herculean iconography of the main Renaissance-style façade dates from this period.
The palace was in a state of ruin until 1755, when it was decided that it would be the new headquarters of the Episcopal Palace, which was formerly located in the Plazuela del Alcázar. The current interior porticoed patio, the work of José de la Sierra (the same architect who worked on the Cathedral), is organized on two floors. The lower one presents semicircular granite arches, while the upper body. it is built of limestone.
