This small town, nestling at the foot of the Carcaña Mountain Range in the region of El Valle, is bathed by the River Duero, whilst downriver lies the Cuerda del Pozo Reservoir. Travellers should look out for the castle ruins, as well as the magnificent Renaissance palace of the Hurtado de Mendoza family with its double porticoed gallery, built in 1581 and restored by the First Count of La Puebla de Valverde. Also well worth a visit is the intriguing Church of La Asunción or the Serna wetlands, where herons and other migratory birds stop to rest during their flight south.
