The Castilian and Leonese Institute of Language is organizing on Friday, November 22, at 7:30 p.m., at the Palacio de la Isla in Burgos, the proposal The song of the blackbird: how a literary magazine was born, a meeting directed by the Burgos writer Oscar Esquivias, winner of the Castilla y León Prize for Literature, and by the designer and photographer from Valladolid Asís G. Ayerbe, curators of the exhibition The flight of the blackbird: the first years of a magazine that sings , which can be visited at the Palacio de la Isla since the end of September.
This exhibition is a retrospective that recreates the editorial project deployed in the photography and literature magazine Mirlo, a publication founded in December 2022 by both authors. The magazine, published monthly, develops a monographic theme in each issue in a plastic and literary way. Mirlo offers a wide variety of content and is characterized by bringing literary and plastic play and experimentation to each issue.
In this sense, the guests will share with the public their experience in the world of magazine publishing, publications that they consider the best instrument for a young person with an artistic vocation to develop their creativity and refine their criteria . Both maintain that magazines are the laboratories in which new ideas are experimented and where artistic groups are born, and in Castilla y León there is a long tradition , they argue.
Óscar Esquivias (Burgos, 1972) and Asís G. Ayerbe (Valladolid, 1978) have participated separately in the founding and publication of several cultural magazines; the first, in publications of a more literary nature (especially in Calamar , a creative magazine, published between 1999 and 2002), and the second, in visual and photographic magazines ( Entelequia, 2000-2007). In 2022 they decided to jointly found a literary magazine Mirlo- in which literature and image are related equally, with monographic issues in which photography and text form a creative whole.
