Valladolid Museum. This month the museum highlights a painting depicting St. Cecilia, a 3rd century AD Roman martyr, as she sits playing the organ. Forced to marry, she converted her husband to Christianity and both preached their faith until the time of her martyrdom and execution. She is considered the patron saint of musicians and instrument makers, and her feast day is celebrated on November 22.

The panel has been linked to several Flemish engravings from the late 16th and early 17th centuries, although its origin or author is unknown.

Gerbier, AL (Engraver); Massonet, F. (Editor). 1859. Silver.

Guided tour of the piece of the month on Friday, November 8 at 12:00 noon (free entry, no reservation required).
