THE YELLOW RAIN

The Yellow Rain (produced by Corral de García) is a novel by Julio Llamazares published in 1988. It is a monologue by the last inhabitant of a village in the Pyrenees, Ainielle, during his last night in the village.

Andrés de Casa Sosas tells us his story from that last night of his life, from the night when death will lead him to eternal darkness, where he will be reunited with his mother and all his loved ones. Andrés's story is the passing of a life and, at the same time, the death of a way of life.

Tenacious in his conviction, never losing his loyalty to his own customs, he will be the last inhabitant of his hometown and the house where he was born. But Andrés is beset by every imaginable evil: loneliness, death, apathy, illness, hatred, hallucination, time. In The Yellow Rain, the rugged mountain landscape forces the man to take stock of his loneliness and helplessness on the threshold of death.
