The Provincial Historical Archive of Palencia , an entity dependent on the Junta de Castilla y León, is becoming, until November 29 , the stage for the exhibition 'Traditional clothing in Palencia through engraving and printing. 19th and 20th centuries' . A visit to this exhibition is a unique opportunity to learn about the evolution of the province's traditional costumes and their cultural impact.
The official presentation will take place on October 14 at 11:30 a.m. at the Archive, led by Carlos Porro , curator of the exhibition. Visitors will be able to enjoy a guided tour that will be held again, at the same time, on November 25 .
This exhibition has its origins in the private collection of Carlos Porro , one of the most prominent researchers in the field of the musical and cultural tradition of Palencia. The expert, who is also the director of several institutions dedicated to the study of oral and ethnographic tradition, has brought together thirty original pieces that cover multiple formats, from cards and posters to wrappers of everyday objects such as soaps or matches.
The public will be able to appreciate how traditional clothing became widely popular from the 19th century onwards thanks to the dissemination of engravings and prints that were distributed throughout Spain. In Palencia, the traditional image of the Grijota bakers' dress was disseminated as the typical dress of the province until the 20th century.
- Disseminator of Palencia culture
The curator of 'Traditional Clothing of Palencia', Carlos Porro, has a degree in Art History and an outstanding career as an ethnographer, coordinator of the musical archive Phonoteca of Oral Tradition of the Joaquín Díaz de Urueña Ethnographic Centre Foundation, director of the Archive of Oral Tradition of the province of Palencia and director of the Corrobla Collective of Traditional Dances and Dances.
Thanks to this experience and training, the researcher has been able to generate a broad dossier of publications, records and articles on tradition, folklore and traditional culture.
