On Thursday, January 30th at 7:00 p.m. , in the Auditorium of the Public Library of Palencia , the presentation of the book The Invention of All Things. A History of Fiction by Jorge Volpi will take place.

An exciting and original journey into the imagination as the origin and driving force of the world. With a story that stretches from the Big Bang to today. The invention of all things shows us that human beings are what we tell ourselves. The fictions that guarantee cooperation between individuals and groups gave life to religions and myths; those that have to do with territorial, racial or cultural boundaries have caused or justified invasions, wars and massacres; there are others that determine our personal or civic relationships; magic and astrology are undoubtedly fictions, but so are science, philosophy, art, literature, music, theatre, television, social networks... and even politics or love. This is, in short, a story about how we construct and reconstruct reality on a daily basis through imagination. We spend our lives among fictions, Volpi tells us, without even realising that we are fictions too.

Jorge Volpi was born in Mexico in 1968. He is the author of fifteen novels, several essays, a play and a book of short stories. He has received numerous awards and recognitions such as the José Donoso Prize for his entire work, the Biblioteca Breve Prize, the Ibero-American Narrative Prize and the Alfaguara Novel Prize. His books have been translated into more than thirty languages.
