On Tuesday, May 13 , at 7:00 p.m. , the presentation of Marco Porras 's book Gerardo will take place in the Auditorium of the Palencia Public Library. The event will feature Eolas editor Héctor Escobar , who will speak with the book's author.

Néstor Rubial, a renowned crime journalist, receives an advance from his editor friend Katy Lesmes to write his first novel. In search of inspiration, he turns to the life of Gerardo Salvador Merino, the first head of the powerful National Delegation of Trade Unions during the Franco regime, who was abruptly dismissed in 1941 for alleged membership in the Freemasonry...

Rubial is drawn to such a multifaceted character and the abrupt end to his brilliant political career, which ends as soon as Comrade Gerardo returns from a daring trip to Nazi Germany, where he met with ministers and leaders of the Third Reich.

With a lively flair and documentary rigor, with hidden humor and skeptical distance, the author narrates here how Gerardo Salvador Merino (1910-1971) was a paradigm of his time, one of the many possible tastings of those six tragic and turbulent decades.

But Gerardo is also the story of journalist Rubial, with his debut novel in tow. The meta-literary exercise culminates in a tender and ironic dramatis personae , a choral counterpoint to the protagonist of this ambitious novel about power, work, and social justice, but also about narrative frameworks.
