Javier Montes has a degree in Ethnomusicology from the Conservatory of Music in Salamanca and from the ITU Technical University of Istanbul, Department of Musicology, Folk Dances. From a family from the Sierra de Francia (Salamanca), he began his training at the Center for Traditional Culture where he began to discover the importance of the human being in the development and transmission of music of oral tradition.
With a scholarship from the Orff-Spain Association, he studied World Music with Doug Goodkin, Sofía López Ibor and Verena Marchat, with whom he also worked as a traditional percussion teacher and accompanying musician in the teacher training course "Playing to Dance, Popular Dance as a Cultural Support for Education".
He received training from Juan Carlos Asensio, Ramón Pelinsky and Tess Knighton and carried out field work to collect, study and analyse traditional oral music in the Refugee Camps in Western Sahara.
He is a professor of bagpipes and tambourine, dance, traditional oral/word music and accompanying musician at the Municipal School of Music of Salamanca, Da Capo Salamanca Pedagogical Innovation and the Ezo Sunal Center, Istanbul, Turkey.
At the same time, he carried out research on construction processes and began to make reproductions and newly constructed instruments that would give rise to the project "A Recycled Tradition" under the pseudonym Dontamboril.
