He was an important 20th-century sculptor from Salamanca, whose works can be seen today in many Spanish cities and towns, especially in the squares and streets of Salamanca, as well as in Portugal, France and Strasbourg. Such is the case of his masterpiece El Lazarillo de Tormes y el Ciego (The Blind Man) located on the banks of the Roman Bridge, or the medallion dedicated to Miguel de Cervantes in the Plaza Mayor, both in the city of Salamanca. In addition to literary characters convincingly captured by the artist such as; Calisto, Melibea or La Celestina .
He was widely honored and mentioned in the main media outlets of his time, in addition to having received wide recognition for his beautiful works and exhibitions. One of his great stone works, Minerva , rests in the Rectorate of the University of Salamanca. Throughout his life and artistic career, Agustín Casillas received numerous tributes and recognitions. In 2015, he received the Gold Medal of the City of Salamanca, the highest distinction awarded by the city to institutions or personalities that have contributed to the dissemination of the historical, artistic, and social values of the capital of Salamanca.
