TRIO CONTRASTES: Exile and silence. Music of the generation of 27

The military coup of 1936 and the subsequent establishment of the Dictatorship cut short the musical careers of a large number of Spanish composers, most of them related to the so-called Generation of '27.

Following these events, composers such as Manuel de Falla, Roberto Gerhard, Simón Tapia Colman and Rodolfo Halffter, among many others, took the path of exile. Among those who remained in Spain, a dark cloak of silence was imposed and both their works and they themselves were deliberately condemned to ostracism. For example, Fernando Remacha, an already established musician (National Music Prize winner in 1932) had to go to work in a hardware store, and although some time later he was commissioned to set up the Higher Conservatory of Music in Pamplona, it was not until many years later that he was able to resume his work as a composer.

The members of the group, both from the Trío Contrastes (Marco Pastor, violin; Lara Díaz, clarinet and bass clarinet; Natalia Zapatero, piano) "have a great deal of experience in the field of interpretation and teaching of their respective instruments. The multidisciplinary nature of the team allows them to undertake imaginative projects to achieve added value to the classical concert."

The repertoire of the Trío Contrastes (violin, clarinet and piano) is made up of original works from the 20th and 21st centuries, and its members have a clear commitment to the music of our time and especially to Spanish music. They are specialized in adapting works from the so-called "Spanish Nationalism" (late 19th century - early 20th century) for the trio.
