The Museum of Palencia, This new museum exhibition displays 19 drawings by the renowned Palencian painter/illustrator Chema Manzano. They are drawings made in graphite on paper and one in chalk, based on Romanesque sculpture, especially capitals. They are images taken from the Romanesque of Palencia and Castile-Leonese, but also from notable places in our neighbouring Asturias and Cantabria, not to mention some examples from France, such as the cathedral of San Lázaro de Autun. They are drawings of representations and figurations that have a strong symbolic character.
This work is the result, in the words of the author, "of my love for medieval art", provoked by his study and knowledge and by the artistic challenge of its graphic representation through conscientious drawing, where tone, nuance, line, plane, light, shadow and framing come together in a technical concept of great effort and personal improvement. His work as a teacher has had a lot to do with his involvement in this project.
The works are accompanied by labels, written by the author, which, in addition to their title and location, hint at his personal interpretation that serves as an aid to the iconographic interpretation of what is represented or to begin the path of a more in-depth analysis.
