Lecture "Art in the Feminine: Five Painters from Zamora" by Alicia Santiago Tamame

  • May 12th, 7:00 p.m.
  • Auditorium of the Public Library of Zamora
  • Free admission until full capacity is reached

With the participation of Álvaro Lozano , clarinetist and director of the Maestro Nacor Blanco Music Band.

For many years, art history has silenced women artists, because it was considered normal for architecture, sculpture, and painting to be done exclusively by men, and no one questioned their absence from museums or exhibitions. But today we know that they did exist; they had simply been omitted. Furthermore, they were also prohibited from academic training for centuries. This has relegated them to the shadows, forgotten and unknown to the public.

Our talk will aim to discover and explore five female painters from different periods in art history, all from Zamora. Two will take us back to the Middle Ages (Ende and Teresa Díez), two will bring us back to the 19th century (Joaquina Serrano and Nicanora Matilla), and with Delhy Tejero, from Toro, we'll return to the 20th century.

Fortunately, in Zamora there have been, are, and will be many women linked to the arts (painters, sculptors, photographers, architects, writers).

Mª Alicia Santiago Tamame holds a degree in Art History, is a Professor of Social Sciences in Secondary Education, and teaches at the Master's in Secondary School Teacher Training at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
