This line began operating in 1896 and allowed connecting Astorga (Leon) with Plasencia (Cáceres), with different intermediate towns such as La Bañeza, Benavente, Zamora, Salamanca and Béjar. The line was closed for passenger transport in 1985 and finally in 1996 it was closed for freight transport. This recovered section is 24.8 km long and connects the towns of Barcial del Barco and Pobladura del Valle in the province of Zamora.
