Museum of Avila. November 22nd, the feast day of Saint Cecilia, patron saint of musicians, is also celebrated as International Musician's Day.

The Avila Museum has an important collection of musical instruments, both classical and popular, spanning from the 18th to the 20th century, as well as other pieces directly related to musical heritage. This is the case of the painting Santa Cecilia, by the Ávila painter Manuel Sánchez Ramos (1855-1940), commissioned by the musician Robustiano Martín, a fellow countryman and friend of the painter, in 1899, and recently acquired by the museum.

For many years, at the beginning of the 20th century, on the initiative of the cathedral organist Eliso Martín Arribas, son of Robustiano, the work - blessed in the church of La Santa - was taken to the Cathedral every day of Santa Cecilia, so that the musicians of Avila could honour their patron saint there.

The oil painting, donated to the Museum of Avila by Alfonso de Vicente Delgado, musicologist and descendant of the Martín Arribas, will be exhibited at the Casa de los Deanes from November 19 to December 1.

In this context, on November 22nd a concert will be offered by the duo Dolce Rima, formed by Julieta Viñas and Paula Brieba, with a repertoire of pieces for vihuela and singing from the 16th century.

The concert will be at 7:00 p.m., with free admission until full capacity is reached and will be streamed through the EE TEMPORARY EXHIBITION: "THE MAGIC HANDS"This link will open in a pop-up window.
