"13 Sonnets and a Mermaid" is a concert for voice and guitar with music and lyrics by Daniel Pérez. The originality of this concert lies in the verse used in the songs, since the sonnet is not common in musical compositions, nor is it common for the same author to have written both the music and the lyrics.
The sonnet has a long tradition in Spanish literature, from Garcilaso, Quevedo, and Lope de Vega, among our classics, to Lorca and Miguel Hernández, to name a few.
This recital seeks to draw inspiration from this poetic tradition, and from the conviction that it is necessary to defend Spanish as a language of culture.
The 13 sonnets speak of the feeling of love from different perspectives, although as with art in general, they go beyond the purely emotional.
Daniel Pérez Fernández (playwright, Zamora 1956), has been director of the Teatro Principal de Zamora from 1987 to 2022 and is also an Academician of the Academy
