The exhibition, dedicated to the animals that shared the hard work of the miners and that today remain largely unknown, is curated by the mining historian Fernando Cuevas, has illustrations by Alfonso Zapico, National Comic Award 2012 and the assembly of the mining gallery that houses it has been carried out by the Club de Entibadores Palentinos de Guardo. They were animals that worked, like mules, horses or oxen, transporting heavy loads, sentinel animals, which served to detect dangerous situations in time, like canaries, or even pets, sometimes welcomed, like dogs or cats, sometimes annoying, like rats. Mining activity, due to its age, physical hardness, specific characteristics of danger or work in unhealthy environments, shows a long history of collaboration between miners and animals. For years they helped with the specific tasks of each of the mining trades and only in recent times, with mechanization, have they begun to disappear from the mining landscape.
