The Palencia Museum, In "Castillo Interior" a selection of the work of the multifaceted creator Javier Guardo Laso (Palencia 1950-2023) is shown. A potter-ceramist whose main production is found between the eighties and the beginning of the present century. A time in which this artistic expression is disconnected from pottery traditions, the raw material of clay taking a leading role in contemporary creative languages. From the first creations of containers with apparent domestic functionality, made on a wheel and in a mold using porcelain, his work will evolve to sculptural constructions, mainly in chamotte stoneware, round, geometric, with a certain architectural character, tower, megaliths... the sphere and prisms will be the fundamental elements of his creation; a splendid, imaginative and groundbreaking production full of technique and enameled and burnished shine.
To provide an overview of the artist, some of his pictorial creations are also on display, including his series Rocks, Landscapes, Plant Abstractions… which have focused his expression in recent years.
A section of the exhibition is dedicated to his role as a restorer of archaeological pieces, as he was in charge of the restoration workshop at the Palencia Museum for several years, and his hand can be seen in more than three hundred objects in the collection on display.
