The Castilian and Leonese Institute of Language and the Zamora City Council are organizing the poetry recital "13 Sonnets and a Siren" at the Zamora Public Library on Thursday, April 24th at 7:00 p.m., a concert for voice and guitar with music and lyrics by Zamora-born composer and playwright Daniel Pérez. This recital showcases the originality of using the sonnet in stanzas, a poetic composition rarely used in song lyrics but with a long tradition in Spanish-language literature, where it has been frequently used by classical authors such as Garcilaso de la Vega, Quevedo, Lope de Vega, Federico García Lorca, and Miguel Hernández, among others.

The 13 sonnets speak of the feeling of love from different perspectives, although, as with art in general, they go beyond the purely emotional aspect. This recital seeks to draw inspiration from this poetic tradition and from the conviction that it is necessary to defend Spanish as a language for transmitting culture. This proposal has found support from specialized critics, who have highlighted how the meticulous and careful versions presented by the Zamora-born author allow the messages to be conveyed directly without losing their beauty and mystery. It exudes something fascinating and an enchanting spectacle, a feast for the visual and auditory senses with a strong presence of music, song, and dance —these are some of the praises that '13 Sonnets and a Mermaid' has received from critics.
