An apparently modern town yet whose roots are firmly fixed in the past, as it belonged to the area of the Comunidad de Villa and Tierra de Coca, made up of nine villages and known as ‘The Squad of Nuestra Señora de Engullían’. King Charles III granted the town the right to serve justice. It is set amidst a spectacular sea of pine forests from which Nava de la Asunción rises up to form a picturesque setting.

It many illustrious residents include the Barcelona-born poet Jaime Gil de Biedma who spent his childhood and youth here, as reflected in many of his verses. Each year, the town pays a well-deserved tribute to this writer with its International Poetry Award.

This town also includes the following sites of interest: the Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, the Bishop’s Fountain, Fountain House and the Chapel of El Santo Cristo de la Expiración.
