Zamora wall
The city of Zamora is in a strategic enclave as it is located at an elevated point, at the foot of the Duero river and forming part of the Vía de la Plata. In this way, its inhabitants could control the arrival of possible invaders and trade routes. For this reason, the city of Zamora had up to three walled enclosures, which gave rise to receiving the name of the well-fenced.
Currently only a few traces of these walls are preserved, the best preserved section being the first of the three that was built in the 11th century, in Fernando I's time, it surrounds the old town and the Castle, it was built on a previous one of Roman age. It is also the most important of all, delimiting the atoll on which the city sits. On the wall are some of the most unique access doors.
