Built in the 14th century as a gateway and tower in the wall that surrounded the city.
Rebuilt in the 16th century by Juan de Vallejo and Francisco de Colonia as a triumphal arch. It shows the Emperor Charles V surrounded by the most important people in the history of the city and Castilla.
The Sala de Poridad, meeting place of the Council of Burgos until the 18th century, bears motifs related to El Cid and a Mudejar coffered ceiling. In the Sala Principal there is painting by Vela Zanetti, remains of Mudejar plasterwork and the pharmacy of the old Hospital of San Juan.
