The beautiful Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, in Baroque and Herrerian style, is known as the 'unfinished' one since it was never finished due to its large dimensions. The churches of Santa María de la Antigua, San Benito, San Miguel and San Julián and San Pablo stand out, as well as its monumental historic center. The Plaza Mayor, the nerve center of the city, was ordered to be rebuilt by King Philip II after the fire that devastated the city center in the 16th century.

The city presents an energetic cultural sphere where all artistic expressions have a place. The Patio Herreriano is the center of the avant-garde, while the National Museum of Sculpture houses great works of all time and the Science Museum is in charge of bringing society closer to science by participating in different experiments. Also noteworthy are the house museums of illustrious figures such as Christopher Columbus, Cervantes and Zorrilla.
