Tradition and Dances in the Fornela Valley
Every August, the sound of ritual and memory is born in the Fornela Valley, an ancestral tradition and an inherited feeling that the dancers have revived for more than 500 years. Authentic mimetic language of the soul that is rooted in the spirit of a valley hardened by the harshness of its environment. A ritual that has been maintained to this day in Guímara, Trascastro, Chano and Peranzanes. Dances full of symbolism that survive the ravages of depopulation and are a reflection of the character and feeling of these towns in El Bierzo that have kept alive this manifestation of emotions that attract people from all corners.
The days of celebration are August 15, 16 and 17 in the towns of Peranzanes, Chano and Trascastro, the big day being August 15 around the Pilgrimage to the Virgin of Trascastro, and August 23 and 24 in Guímara.
