Sanctuary of the Peña de Francia
Robust building containing a monastery and a Benedictine guesthouse from the 15th century, today under the auspices of the Dominicans. Inside the church of the monastery, encased in a sculpture of the last century, are the remains of a statue which, according to legend, Simón Vela found in a nearby cave in 1434.
On the outside of this Gothic style church is a tower built in 1767 and stairs and a doorway from the 18th century giving access to the inside of the church.
The 18th century square has a monument in its centre, which is a symbol of the jurisdictional power of the Prior of the monastery over the surrounding mountainous regions. On one side is the door to the convent (15th century) and on the other side the Capilla de la Blanca (16th century) built above the cave where the statue of the Virgin was found. Connecting these two buildings is a covered arcade in the centre of which is the Balcón de Santiago.
