The minstrel sings that one hundred Castilian men had arrived in San Pedro de Cardeña to join el Cid who, on his pilgrimage, spent the night in ‘Spinaz del Can’. The exact spot is unknown, however everything points to the fact that the place was located in the open ground of the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Pinarejos, before reaching Huerta de Rey.

Pinarejos is named after the pinewood where it was located. From here the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción can be visited, with its beautiful bell tower from the Romanesque era. About seven kilometres away is the town of Huerta de Rey that sprang up at the time of the re-population by Alfonso III. Nowadays, in this monumental complex, of which the church of San Pelayo (16th century).
