Breathtaking scenery in the mountains of Palencia. Cervera de Pisuerga lies at the entrance to the Fuentes Carrionas Nature Park and a valley of marshlands: Ruesga to the west; Requejada or Arbejal to the south; and Aguilar de Campoo to the east. Here, various routes meet leading to and from Castile and Cantabria in a strategic location that has proved essential for the town’s social and economic development, as well as for its historic and artistic heritage.

Its heyday came in the 16th and 17th centuries. The castle and the colonnaded main street form the noblest part of the town, reflecting what this town once was: a crossing point that had to be defended. Indeed, the Church of Santa María del Castillo still conserves its ancient fortifications. Other highlights include the emblazoned noble houses, with their courtyards dating from the 15th to the 17th centuries. Prosperity that can still be seen and felt today.
