To find the origins of the city of Ponferrada you have to go back to the Middle Ages, in a settlement around the Camino de Santiago. It was at the end of the 11th century when Osmundo, bishop of Astorga, ordered the construction of a bridge over the Sil River to facilitate the passage of pilgrims. It is the " pons-ferrata " that will give rise to the name of the city.

Tour the urban center of Ponferrada with its castle, whose towers dominate the Si River valley, and the Basílica de la Encina, the Clock Tower, the Plaza Mayor with the Casa Consiorial and the Royal Jail, today converted into the Bierzo Museum and Enjoy its network of narrow streets where you can enjoy the good wine of El Bierzo and its gastronomy.
