Neolithic fortified settlement of Yecla de Yeltes
The fort El Castillo is located in a ravine among rocky places and entirely surrounded by a thick wall which encloses at least five hectares. It is composed by a little dry granite ashlar very well adjusted. The wall rises on natural rock.
Despite the destructions and the modifications suffered, the appearance of the wall of the fort has few changed in certain areas. No building remains standing, except for the hermitage of the Virgen del Castillo, very posterior to the abandon of the fort, from the times of the Catholic Monarchs, and in whose factory Roman materials have been used.
A set of engravings, both on rocks as well as on little ashlars of the wall is preserved. Those engravings represent horses and other animals. The human figure barely appears: a hunting scene, in which some riders, armed with spears, harass some wild boar.
