Museum of Medieval Fabric
Installed in the Monastery Santa Maria Real de las Huelgas, is one of the most important textile museums in the world, with valuable medieval dresses and fabrics that were part of the civilian clothes between the XI and XIII centuries. The Monastery also contains the tombs of, among others, Alfonso VIII and his wife, and, apparently, from the tombs are the garments currently exhibited in this museum.
In this space are more than 300 restored pieces that are exposed to the public to show citizens the way of dressing of the period and the richness of their costumes. The most significant piece is the banner of Las Navas de Tolosa, considered a masterpiece of Hispano-Muslim upholstery and, as it was traditionally known, it was the booty Alfonso VIII got while defeating the Almohad caliph Al-Nasir in the Battle of Navas de Tolosa.
