The Leonese mining basin in which we are located, driven by the parent company Hullera Vasco-Leonesa, founded the Virgen del Buen Suceso vocational school to train thousands of young people who would later work in the industry, factories and mines of the area. To acclimatise the students to the arduous work inside the earth, the company created this mine school in 1965. Its final closure was in 1985, and, with the closure of the mines and the company, it was abandoned to its fate, as was the entire heritage of Alto Bernesga.

Forty years later, Sangre Minera, in collaboration with the Virgen del Buen Suceso vocational training school and the Aspasia group, has rehabilitated and put this school mine into operation to do justice in the basin. Dozens of miners, family members and neighbours from the Alto Bernesga villages joined together in hard work to create the greatest mining experience in Castilla y León, a symbol of pride towards our past and our present. Today, a visit to the school mine, together with the guidance offered by guides and miners, also offers direct access to the authentic material from the mine shafts and mining facilities in the area.
