This festival is celebrated every year on May 1st. In very rare exceptions over the years the date has been changed, having been moved for different reasons to April 29 or 30. Although there is no exact data on the beginning of the celebration of the festival, it can be affirmed that it has been celebrated since before 1950.

The cultural value of this festival lies in the traditional way of life in a forest environment. Hontoria del Pinar treasures a great natural heritage, highlighting places of incalculable value as an important part of its municipal area is located within the Natural Park of the Cañón del Río Lobos.

At the Fiesta de la Pingada del Mayo, or May Festival, a typical and deeply rooted gastronomic manifestation is held. The participating waiters celebrate a fellowship meal based on the typical mountain stew. The stew is a traditional dish from the Region of Pinares and is made from lamb meat with potatoes as the main ingredients, adding other ingredients such as green and red peppers, onion, oil, garlic and paprika. All this is brought to a boil in a large cauldron or 'perola' on coals and fire with pine wood.
