Although the Duero is a few kilometres away, Boecillo is a prominent enclave on the course of the Duero. In addition to the Palacio de los Condes de Gamazo and the Parque Tecnologico, Felipe II set up the Real Colegio de Escoceses to fight against the religious power of Henry VIII in 1590. Another place near the Duero is Viana de Cega. The river Cega, from which the town takes its name, passes through here and joins the Duero. 75% of the town is surrounded by pine forest.
