Corpus Christi and Moss Men of Béjar
A legend has it that on the day of Santa Marina, the Christian Bejaranos gathered to celebrate a mass in the place known as La Centena. After the prayer they covered themselves with moss robes and set off to the fortress to reconquer the city that was in Muslim hands, back in the 12th century.
In Béjar the Corpus Christi festival has a genuine connotation and a certain uncertain origin between popular tradition and the most recent studies. On floral carpets and among aromas of wild herbs, a processional procession walks through the streets of Bejaran accompanying the Moss Men, enigmatic characters dressed completely in suits made of moss that weigh up to 12 kg.
