The construction of the church of Santiago Apostol began in 1533 in the Gothic style of the time with hall floor, i.e., with three naves rising almost at the same height, under the direction of the architect Rodrigo Gil de Hontañon, the most famous and prolific of his time in Castilla.

The church of Santiago brings together the most diverse artistic styles from Gothic to baroque, through plateresque and classicist styles. Inside stands out the fabulous baroque altarpiece of churrigueresque trace of the main chapel, whose layout corresponds to Joaquin de Churriguera, which was carried out by the great sculptor of Medina de Rioseco, Tomas de Sierra, about the life and legend of St. James. The vaults of its three naves, conducted by Felipe Berrojo in XVII century, possess great beauty.
