Church Nuestra Señora del Castillo Macotera
Dates from the late XV century, as evidenced by the coats of arms, which are commonplace in various parts of the building, belonging to the second Duke of Alba and his wife. The construction is of Hispanic-Flemish style, but the tower is earlier (probably from the XIII century) and the sacristy is a later addition (from the XVIII century). Of it stand out, in addition to the various altarpieces, the stunning Mudejar coffered ceiling, covering the central nave and the wooden structure of the choir (in which mingles the Mudejar and Renaissance styles).
Outside, granite ashlars, the tower stands at the foot of the church. The tow fronts are late-Gothic, and inside, three naves separated by two arches, with Spanish Flemish balls. The central nave is covered by a Mudejar coffered ceiling with gilt microbes and six pairs of braces. It is known as ‘El Cielo de Macotera’ (The heaven of Macotera) due to its tracery work.
