The Junta de Castilla y León has declared La Guinda as a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest. The Villarcayo de MC Town Hall requested, at the end of February 2024, with an exhaustive data report, the declaration as a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest, taking into account the tradition and cultural value, the antiquity of the festival, the originality of the celebration, the influx of visitors from outside the community and the fact that it is held periodically.

The important work of collecting data and information has led to this traditional festival in Villarcay now having this regional distinction. A festival that has been celebrated since the 1950s with the support of various associations and the enthusiasm of Villarcay residents and visitors. The celebration involves the production of the famous Guinda liqueur, an alcoholic drink that can be tasted in the town's bars and around which a competition is held every year, organised by the Peña la Gotera, to find out which bar has produced the best cherry liqueur that year.
